Craig Longhurst has over 30 years of experience designing residential and commercial interiors. He studied Architecture and Interior Design at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia. He worked at Herman Miller, Unifor, Haworth Asia Pacific and Wilkhahn, before establishing his own design firm in Sydney in 2005. He moved to New York City five years later, where he designed and co-owns the critically-acclaimed salons with his partner, Greg Ruggeri. Flexible and receptive, Longhurst is equally adept at working with those who have a strong vision and those less sure of what they want, helping them to formulate their own aesthetic. His ultimate goal is to create timeless, beautiful and functional interiors that reflect the lifestyle, taste and economic goals of his clients.Longhurst’s vast knowledge of design history and antiques means that he is comfortable working in any style, always honoring and celebrating the architecture of the building itself. He particularly appreciates the soul and patina of inherited pieces, and the environmental benefits of rehabbing old furniture. He layers these with contemporary elements (lighting, wallpaper, textiles), employing a network of trusted local artisans. His work has been lauded by New York Magazine, Allure and Vanity Fair, which described Salon Ruggeri’s Fifth Avenue space as a “wonderful safe haven, a calming and inviting day getaway. Salon Ruggeri is unique in its aesthetics a well as for one’s well-being.”
